Chesterfield County Campus

We will bring clean fusion energy to the grid from our campus in Chesterfield County, Virginia.

Our first power plant in Chesterfield County, Virginia, will bring clean fusion power to the grid.

Commonwealth Fusion Systems (CFS), the largest private fusion company, will finance, build, own, and operate the world’s first grid-scale fusion power plant in Chesterfield County, Virginia. This power plant, called ARC, will produce about 400 megawatts of clean, zero-carbon power that’ll help meet the state’s growing demand for electricity. That’s about enough to power 150,000 homes in the state or to satisfy the energy needs of large industrial and commercial customers.

CFS has also established a strategic partnership with Google, who has agreed to purchase half the first plant’s power and further their investment in the company. This relationship will prove valuable for not only the first ARC, but also future ARC power plants as CFS continues on the path to commercialize fusion energy.

CFS expects to start generating clean, carbon-free power with ARC in the early 2030s.
